...It didn't quite hit me how kinda morbid this is until I put the handprint in. XD Anyway!
This is s'more WoW fanart, featuring my mage(the guy on the left) and his now-deceased family. Basically, his wife and kids were murdered by the undead Scourge when Arthas came through and wtfpwned Quel'thalas on their way to the Sunwell and all that. And the only reason he lived was because he and his wife had had a fight the night before and she'd kicked him out for the time being; so he wasn't at home with the rest of them when the Scourge came through.
So uh, yeah. This scene's supposed to be after the Scourge had already ransacked the place, as if in the attack this old family portrait had been knocked from it's place in the chaos and left there, forgotten. Would've been about five years ago in WoW lore, though the family portrait itself (judging by their ages) would've been from quite a while ago.
As for the technical stuff, the 'family portrait' part of it I painted in openCanvas 4 (yay free trials!), then took it into Photoshop CS2 to do all the grunge brushes/perspective-transforming/background stuff.
the texture is wonderful in this, and the overall color really depicts the mood of the story well. i like the detail such as the burning edge of the picture. i really think it puts an edge to the overall image along with the hand print. i also like the reflection of light in the upper left corner of the picture. overall, what would've been the surroundings of this picture (such as the room, ect) looks like they were really taken into consideration and so the finished product looks wonderfully done.
Good job, though! I like it, especially the burn effect you have going on at the corner of the photograph. Good job, Kaihne!
